14A
In class I worked on figuring some of my issues out. I figured out why the logo was not above everything else. I also worked on redoing my background because I needed to make it easier for responsive. I had to make the wood a separate div so that I could extend the background.

13 Outside of Class
For my schedule I have to get 50% of my static coding done for Tuesday. I need both the home and sub pages done 50%. I actually got ahead of schedule and finished coding both of them as static pages. I think the difficulty will lie in making it responsive. I did have some trouble with my logo on my home page so I want to figure that out today.

Week13 B
Today in class we critiqued the rest of the class's mockups. I got some really great suggestions for my site. Here are the changes I need to make:
- Make changes to the bottom colors- signal and cue is confusing
- Make footer information bigger. Change the type on the image because it's also white
- Get rid of type treatment for the responsive home page
- Change the logo at the top- maybe add an orange bar around the image to bring it together with the navigation
- make the bars for the navigation go all the way across and center the type
- Make footer bigger

Week 13A
During class we critiqued what people had so far for their home and sub mockups. I'm going on Thursday so it was good to hear what to and what to change for mine.
I'm going to make the logo more prominent and get rid of the social media on the top. I'm also going to change the image and make the type fit better.
For my sub page I'm going to change my icons for the activities to be cohesive. I am going to get rid of the more activities for my sub page.

Week 12 Outside of Class
I made changes to my home and sub pages to make them look more interesting. I moved things around so that when you go to responsive mode things are similar in the way they are laid out. I added more type treatment to catch the eye.
For the sub page I made little icons to go with each event. I added the rest of the activities on the side under the navigation.

Week 12A
Today in class we continued to work on our sites based on our schedules. I had get the background and navigation done but I got a lot further than I thought I would. I finished a mockup of the home page desktop and mobile version. In class we talked about making my desktop version look like the responsive version I have. That means putting the navigation on the side. I also rearranged the content with type and images overtop of the pictures of the area.
Week 11 Outside of Class
Outside of class I had on my schedule to work on creating the background, navigation, and the header for the home and sub page mockups. I actually got a lot further than I thought I would. This was my first draft for my website. I found that the image and the navigation weren't working together so I decided to change the visuals.
This is my responsive version of the home page. I got rid of the main image and stacked the navigation.
This ended up being my final layout for the home page. I added a better photo. I changed the background to a wood texture and added footer information.
These are both of my sub pages. I am not sure which one to go with. They both have a lot of information.

Week11B
Today in class we went over our schedules. I made changes to mine. I also worked on my visuals but I saved over them. I didn't save over some pngs so I am going to use them

Week11 Outside of class
Outside of class I worked on a schedule for the rest of the semester. I also worked on redoing my home page wireframe. I also created a sub page wireframe to get a sense of what both would be like.
This is the home page. I fixed the navigation and header so that it's in a fixed wrapper. I also have a main image that disappears when you get to the responsive state.
This is my sub page. I made two sections for the rates above the main content because it's really important content.
This is my schedule for the rest of the semester.
Week11A
In class we went over what people had for visuals and home page wireframe. My responsive wireframe was wrong so I had to redo it. I was confused about the width of the screen so I made it go the whole way across the screen. I also did a little bit for visuals but not too much. I wasn't sure what to do with it but I got some really good ideas.

Week10 Outside of Class
Outside of class we had to create a wireframe of what we want our home page to look like. It seems pretty simple but it can definitely be difficult. I created a header, navigation, main image, main content and footer section. When it gets down to the 480 px or less I got rid of the main image and the navigation stacks on top of itself. I also made the content longer and the footer bigger to make up for the change in space. Here's the link to the page.
http://students.millersville.edu/mayardum/wireframe/
I also added a few changes to my visual. I came up with a different form of trunk to put behind my navigation.

Week10B
In class we took our existing fluid and fixed index files and made them responsive. I like doing this exercise because it helped me understand what to do without being worried about any of the content. I understand how to do and it doesn't seem too complicated. In class we also worked on continuing our visuals and carrying them further to work with our site.

Week10A
Today in class we critiqued the visuals we came up with and talked about our updated style tile. For my visuals I got a lot of feedback. Heather said to make my website a trail hiking upwards so give it more of a narrative. It could be anything like a hiker hiking up the canyon. Chris said to make the signs look like they're nailed into the wood background like you might see on a trail. They also said I should keep the wood texture but just dull it down so you can still read the type. Kate suggested that I make the tree and type go out of the seal shape I have and break the boundaries. In class we also started doing a fixed and fluid layout. Here's what they look like:

I also made a few changes to my visuals.

Week9 Outside of Class
This is my revised style tile. I added a logo going along with the color scheme. I also changed the top so that it was just a curved top. I changed the body copy to something a little bit thicker. I also changed the heading color to orange to match the seal at the top of the page.
These are more visuals. I wanted to see what this might look like for my navigation. I wanted them to be like road signs that you might see when at a campground.
These are my visuals. I took a photo that I had from the Pennsylvania grand canyon and used it as part of a logo for my site. I also referenced the visuals we created in class on Thursday. They helped me come up with different ideas for a logo. For the type I wanted to go with something clean and simple but also a little bit edgier to exemplify the campground.
Week9B
In class we did an exercise where we did visual translations and came up with typography based on someone's company/place. On Thursday I got to go and it was really helpful. It helped me come up with some ideas for a logo and an overall feel for the website I want to create. Here asre some of the translations some of my classmates did in class:
This one caught my eye because of the keystone shape. I think that would be good for my site.
This seal also caught my eye. I think it would represent the campground perfectly.

Week8 Outside of Class
This week outside of class we had to read an article about responsive design and how to design based on certain constraints. There were a lot of good points. I think one of the most important points was that you need to always have the fact that different types of devices have different specifications. Iphones and android phones are very different and you need to design based on those specifications. If you don't the results could be catastrophic.
I called the campground to gather a little bit of information. She told me that the site is there to get people to travel to the Pennsylvania grand canyon and stay at Pettecote Junction. She said that the audience she wants for her site is an audience full of travelers, fishermen, and anyone who rides the bike trails. With that in mind I thought of adding some illustrations pertaining to these different activities.
I also created wireframes based on the information I got. I want there to be a clear navigation with compelling images so that when a user comes to the sight they are enticed to visit this place. I also added a quote on top of the picture. I think travelers want to know about the experience and if there's a good review above the fold it will help draw the user to find out more information.

I also worked on creating a style tile. Since my site is a campground, I wanted to go with colors from nature but a little bit abstracted. I also picked textures that you would see in the woods.

Week8B
In class on Thursday we had to create a powerpoint based on our research of responsive sites. My group was given feature content area. We had to look at about 50 or so websites to see if we noticed any patterns between them . We found that the most common things were that the content to the right would float underneath content, images and text got smaller, and some content disappeared all together. Some unique things we found were when text would appear on top of an image and when image slideshows would stack its images as static images where the slideshow used to be.

Week8 Outside of Class
Outside of class I worked on what I'm going to need for my petticote campground website.
I want to include:
Style Tile: I want to include a style tile because there isn't much style to begin with. I want to come up with a style for the overall website.
Wireframe: A wireframe would be beneficial to me because there is no structure at all now so I want to come up with a structure.
I also want to do some research on what information to include on the site. I am going to look surrounding attractions up as links to the home page.
I called the campground that I'm doing the website for and she told me that her focus for her website is that she wants people that travel to that area to visit the website. She also wants people that ride the bike trails and go fishing to visit her website.

Week8A
In class we talked about the chapters that we had to read. The most important point I got from the reading was that you need to be flexible when designing responsive design. We also went over everyone's website that they chose to do for the responsive website. I found 4 websites each very different. I ended up choosing one that is for a campground at the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. We basically took the entire class to go over websites.

Week7 Outside of class/Spring Break
These are the websites that I found. I wasn't sure which one I wanted to do.
My first site is a campground website: http://www.pettecotejunction.com/
The second site I found is http://www.bottomdollarfood.com/
The third site I found is http://www.elcys.com/index.php/menu

Week7B
During class we had a critique on our websites. I took some notes on what to fix with mine.
Some things to note:
Show the before and after for my portfolio to show what changed and how my site progresse.
Things to change:
The fact button moves when you roll over it
Images on Display page look like links-maybe make text smaller underneath
City/State should be separated-state with the drop down menu
Get rid of the underline on personal information
Make email link at the bottom an active link
Mess with the scalloping and maybe add it to the red section since its in multiple places
Fix the background navigation part on my home page-not as big as my sub pages
Fix the background white part-repeated image
Fix the sub navigation for Dickens Village-Dickens Village needs to be first in sub nav
Make organ image bigger so I don't need to move the text down
fix home page- the zip code breaks onto 2 lines

Week7A
In class we just continued to code. I ran into some problems. I didn't start out by putting all of my pages css on the same page. I had to take all of my css pages and put them into one. Once I did that I did encounter some problems. I had align issues. Eventually I got them worked out and everything is centered and aligned properly.

Week6 Outside of class
Outside of class I worked on coding the rest of my pages. I want to get them all done for Tuesday so I can go over any small details I'm missing. I have gotten the basic pages down so that I can focus on the details later.
Week6B
This week we basically spent the time in class coding our websites. In class I got my home page and 1 sub page done. I had to figure some other things out to make everything work correctly. I wanted everything to line up with the background so I worked on making the background the same throughout the sub pages.
Thursday, March 7, 2013
Week6A
In class we talked about Java and Jquery and when one might need them for a website. Then you showed us how to create a template for our sub pages. After that we worked on coding our first page. I got most of it done outside of class but then I had a few problems. I worked on creating buttons our of my images at the bottom. It took me awhile to figure it out but I was able to get it to work.

Week5B
These are my final web pages before I start to code. In class we talked about each person's website design. The changes I need to make are to align the boxes on my form page. I can also add more symbols throughout the page. I can also make my content on my wanamaker organ page into 2 columns.

Week5 Outside of Class
I have done a lot of work outside of class trying to make my website look better and be a better site for users to navigate. The first change I made was to make the bottom content cohesive and interesting. I changed the shapes into circles and made the typeface more fun. I also changed the top to include more information. I wasn't sure what to do with the side bar so I created one and left it open.
