Week1 Outiside of class

Outside of class I worked on finishing the site map and the wireframes. I also added a quote to the persona. For the site map I originally had the 4th category as 'become a member' but I revised it to Membership because it is a better word to summarize what is in that part of the navigation. For the persona I picked a young mom because she would want to find activities for her family to do during the holiday season. I also worked on making the wireframes. I wasn't exactly sure as to how much detail should be included but I included the navigation. I also included boxes where images might be. Depending on which category is chosen, the sub navigation shows up in the box on the left side right next to the primary navigation.

Week1B

 Today in class we went over the powerpoint from last class and talked about important parts. What I found most interesting was Hick's Law. I think it is important to take note of how much information is being presented because it can cause information overload. After that we started working on our website. We talked about site maps, wireframes, and personas. I think all of these are important because they show that you've thought about the content and because they give structure to a website. In class I worked on creating the site map. It was hard at first to create categories for the navigation because the content was all over the place. I finally came up with four categories holding what I believe to be all of the content. Each one has a sub navigation that will show up on the side of the screen. I divided the navigation into 4 main areas that I deemed most important. After completing this I started working on my persona. I think my website would be visited my a mom who is looking for winter activities for her children and she came upon the light show.

Week1A

In class we started out by taking a quiz on writing an html/css page of a basic web page. We were partnered up and wrote decided on what to write. I was partners with Kate. She was better at writing the css and I was better at writing the html so we did accordingly. I knew the basic structure I was just unsure of how to do the list with the links until Kate reminded me. The only thing I was unsure of was how to write the css for the links with all of the states especially if you have more than one link. After that we went over the syllabus and course outlines.  Then we watched a powerpoint on design elements that were  about web design and structure. We talked about important things to remember when designing a web site.
